BETTER MEDICARE ALLIANCE STATEMENT ON MEDICARE EXECUTIVE ORDER

Washington, D.C. – Better Medicare Alliance (BMA) President and CEO Allyson Y. Schwartz released the following statement in response to today’s announcement of the President’s Executive Order on Medicare:

“We are pleased to see the Administration acknowledge the innovations in services, consumer protections and care delivery available in Medicare Advantage.  Medicare Advantage has received strong bipartisan support in Congress with over 360 Democrats and Republicans sending a letter in January 2019 urging support for Medicare Advantage.

Medicare Advantage is valued by more and more Medicare beneficiaries, with enrollment expected to increase to 40% of the total Medicare population in 2020.

We commend the Administration for its work to provide clear, non-biased, consumer-friendly information and decision-making tools to better enable beneficiaries to make an active choice in how they receive their Medicare benefits. We support these efforts to ensure that seniors and those individuals with disabilities know the options they have in their coverage and are able to make the best choice for themselves. We encourage the Administration to continue to improve the enrollment process, materials, outreach, and decision-making tools.

In addition, we support efforts to ensure stability for Medicare Advantage, expand value-based care and supplemental benefits, such as telemedicine to improve health outcomes for beneficiaries.

We look forward to working with Congress and the Administration to provide high quality care, low consumer costs, and achieve better health and well-being for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries.
