BETTER MEDICARE ALLIANCE HIRES NEW GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS DIRECTOR AND NEW STAFF

Washington, D.C. Better Medicare Alliance (BMA), the leading advocacy coalition dedicated to advocating for Medicare Advantage, announced it has hired Lisa Hunter as Director of Government Affairs and Alliance Engagement.

Having spent over a decade working on health policy and political strategy in both the public and private sectors, Hunter combines her Medicare policy expertise, consulting background, and public service experience to lead BMA’s efforts to engage with Capitol Hill and the Administration to drive legislative activity that impact Medicare Advantage. In addition, Hunter is at the helm of continued recruitment and engagement with BMA’s diverse coalition of allies. In four years, BMA’s coalition has grown from 13 original founding allies to include nearly 130 nationwide.

“As BMA looks to expand its legislative portfolio and increase engagement with a new Congress, we are very pleased to add Lisa’s extensive policy background and knowledge to the team”, said Allyson Y. Schwartz, President and CEO of the Better Medicare Alliance. “We welcome the opportunity to present the important role Medicare Advantage plays in modernizing Medicare in meeting the needs of current and future beneficiaries with high quality, affordable care to both new and returning Members. Lisa brings a strong background and commitment to cost-effective, innovative care that is so well-suited to this advocacy role. We look forward to Lisa spearheading our efforts on Capitol Hill, introducing Medicare Advantage to new members, building relationships and enhancing the support for Medicare Advantage.”

Prior to joining BMA, Hunter was a Director with Avalere Health where she played a critical role establishing the firm’s Health Plans & Managed Care Practice that provided clients with strategic advisory services and analyses on the impact of the Affordable Care Act and helping clients anticipate and operationalize regulatory changes around quality, risk, and innovation under Medicare. Before joining Avalere, Hunter served as a political appointee at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services where she contributed to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Legislation and under the Immediate Office of Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. Hunter is also a former Capitol Hill staffer who worked for Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA).

From 2007-2008, Hunter served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Guyana. Hunter holds a Master of Public Policy degree from Georgetown University, and a BA in Anthropology from Vassar College.

In addition, BMA recently hired two new staff members. They are Jeremiah McCoy, Health Policy Analyst and Daniella Chambers, Advocacy Manager.

Prior to BMA, McCoy was a Research Consultant at the National Pharmaceutical Council, a health policy research trade association. Before that, McCoy was a Legislative Fellow at the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and is a candidate for his Master of Health Policy from George Mason University.

Before working at BMA, Chambers served as the Intervention Program Coordinator for an LGBTQ Community Center in Houston, Texas. Chambers holds a Masters degree in Public Health with focus in Community Health Practice from the University of Texas School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Ohio Northern University.

BMA recently moved offices to 1411 K ST NW, Washington, D.C.
