Better Medicare Alliance Responds to CMS Model Aimed at Reducing Out-of-Pocket Costs for Insulin

Washington, D.C. – Better Medicare Alliance (BMA), an advocacy and research organization supporting Medicare Advantage, responded today to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) newly announced Part D Senior Savings Model.

The voluntary model is intended to reduce out-of-pocket costs for Medicare beneficiaries taking insulin.

“While Medicare Advantage works to keep costs low for beneficiaries – saving consumers nearly $1,600 a year compared to Traditional Medicare – rising prescription drug costs still pose challenges for too many seniors,” said Allyson Y. Schwartz, President and CEO of the Better Medicare Alliance. “On behalf of the nearly 90 percent of Medicare Advantage beneficiaries enrolled in a plan with prescription drug coverage, Better Medicare Alliance applauds this effort to lower insulin costs for seniors.
