BETTER MEDICARE ALLIANCE STATEMENT ON PROPOSAL TO DELAY 2020 TAX ON SENIORS
Washington, D.C. – Better Medicare Alliance (BMA) President and CEO Allyson Y. Schwartz released the following statement in response to the inclusion of a delay of the Health Insurance Tax (HIT) in an amendment to a U.S. Senate amendment to H.R. 88 otherwise known as the Retirement, Savings and Other Tax Relief Act of 2018 and the Taxpayer First Act of 2018:
“In recent weeks, over 16,000 letters have been sent to my former colleagues in the House and Senate from American seniors and senior advocates expressing grave concern over a looming tax on Medicare Advantage that threatens to increase out-of-pocket costs for beneficiaries.
“We are encouraged that some attention is being paid to delaying the health insurance tax by including a two-year delay in this proposal. It is imperative that Congress act to protect millions of disabled and older adults who cannot afford to absorb these increases in health costs.
“We urge the House and Senate to find a way to prevent rising costs for beneficiaries who rely on the affordability, simplicity, benefits and value of Medicare Advantage.”
