Better Medicare Alliance Responds to Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations Report on Medicare Advantage

WASHINGTON – Better Medicare Alliance, the nation’s leading research and advocacy organization supporting Medicare Advantage, responded today to the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations’ (PSI) report on prior authorization in Medicare Advantage:

“Prior  authorization works to ensure care is safe, evidence-based, and cost-effective for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries. This report paints a misleading picture of how the program operates. At the same time, we should always be working to ensure it is as responsive as possible to the needs of seniors. That is why we support ongoing efforts to improve prior authorization,”  said Mary Beth Donahue, President and CEO of Better Medicare Alliance.  “Nearly 34 million Americans choose Medicare Advantage because it provides better care at a lower cost than Fee-For-Service Medicare. We  will continue working with policymakers and other stakeholders to bring forward solutions to strengthen the program for seniors.”
