Better Medicare Alliance Responds to CMS 2025 Medicare Advantage Premiums and Enrollment Projections
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Better Medicare Alliance released the following statement today in response to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) 2025 Medicare Advantage premiums and enrollment projections:
“More seniors continue to choose Medicare Advantage because it delivers better health care at a lower cost than Fee-For-Service Medicare,” said Mary Beth Donahue, President and CEO of Better Medicare Alliance. “However, millions of seniors could see disruptions to their Medicare Advantage coverage next year, including plan closures, higher out-of-pocket costs, and fewer supplemental benefits that close coverage gaps. This is a direct result of recent Medicare Advantage policy changes. We urge policymakers to ensure stability for seniors moving forward with policies that protect Medicare Advantage.”
A record 35.7 million seniors and individuals with disabilities are projected to choose Medicare Advantage in 2025, adding nearly 2 million new beneficiaries to the program, according to CMS. Meanwhile, premiums will remain stable next year, with an average premium of $17 compared to $18.23 in 2024. Seniors in most areas will continue to have access to a range of plans, though non-special needs plan offerings per county will decrease from 43 in 2024 to 34 in 2025.
Premiums are just one important consideration for beneficiaries. In the days and weeks to come, Better Medicare Alliance will be commissioning further analysis of other Medicare Advantage changes impacting seniors, including plan closures, out-of-pocket maximums, and availability of supplemental benefits.
Medicare Advantage is now the majority Medicare program, serving 55% of the Medicare population. Nearly 34 million Americans choose Medicare Advantage for affordable health coverage, including more low-income seniors and people of color than Fee-For-Service Medicare.
Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period runs from October 15 through December 7, 2025.
